Our Process

At Private Wealth Consultants, we provide highly personalized, fee-only wealth management services, with the primary goal of protecting the assets of the ultra-affluent. We believe that the accumulation and protection of your assets is a continuous cycle. To be successful, it is vital to consistently re-evaluate the current landscape, seek new opportunities, and look toward the future.

While our approach may not take advantage of highly publicized “get rich quick” techniques that attempt to play the market to the investor's advantage, we firmly believe that the combination of conservative investing and active management garners the most consistent and reliable return on investment. Our approach stresses portfolio protection rather than instant gratification. Rather than simply reacting to fluctuations in the market, we believe in consistently monitoring your portfolio and making careful adjustments that keep your overall financial picture in the forefront of the decision-making process.

To achieve your financial objectives, we'll work together, taking the time to get to know you personally, to understand your specific needs and concerns, and to identify your financial goals. From that point on, everything we do will be focused on helping you achieve your life-long financial plan. Here's how it works:

  • Step 1: The Wealth Audit
During the Wealth Audit, we will take a deep and careful look at your current investment program to analyze what's working, what's not, and what may be putting you at unnecessary risk. We'll talk through your financial objectives, discuss your personal and fiscal tolerance for risk and your time horizon, identify your personal preferences, and evaluate your tax situation. The resulting “financial snapshot” will allow us to develop the most appropriate investment plan to help you achieve your goals.
  • Step 2: Defining Wealth Objectives
Together we will formalize your objectives, allowing us to develop and recommend an allocation strategy best suited to your needs. To accomplish this, we will draw on our decades of expertise and experience, utilizing asset optimization models to look at risk and return strategies. This strategic allocation helps improve the investment decision-making process and your personal investment return potential.
  • Step 3: Developing Your Investment Policy Statement
The Investment Policy Statement, or IPS, is our roadmap to defining and achieving your goals and strategies. In this document, we lay out the allocations into various investment preferences, as well as your expectations for each sector. Your IPS will help avoid the risks associated with imprudent investment strategies by keeping your investment advisor team focused on your unique goals.
  • Step 4: Implementing Your IPS
Your IPS will guide us as we evaluate investment management and style alternatives for each asset class in your particular portfolio. Our process includes comprehensive due diligence when selecting your investment holdings, managers, and strategies. Using high-quality institutional managers, combined with tax-efficient consideration where appropriate, helps to ensure optimization of your portfolio.
  • Step 5: Monitoring & Managing Your Portfolio
As active wealth managers, we regularly evaluate your personal situation, the performance of your portfolio, and the strength of institutional managers to help ensure that anything that can influence the protection of your assets remains on track to meet your investment policy objectives. At regular intervals -- no less than quarterly -- adjustments are considered and implemented when needed to prevent unintentional weighting and risk.
  • Step 6: Reallocating Your Accounts
As portfolios grow, there is a tendency to continue to invest in high-growth sectors while selling out-of-favor holdings. Generally, this is not a sound strategy as it can lead to over-weighting in particular sectors and increasing overall risk exposure. As we continuously monitor your portfolio, we will rebalance sectors as needed to stay in line with your investment policy statement while continuing to strive for protecting the strength of your portfolio.
  • Step 7: Reviewing Your Objectives
Nothing in this world stays static. As your world changes, so do your goals, objectives, and priorities. By consistently reviewing your objectives with you, we will help ensure that these changes are built into your investment policy statement, and that corresponding strategies in your portfolio are implemented to support your evolving financial goals.
